Whether you’re interested in prayer communities, studying scripture, artistic expression, or just a welcoming social environment, the Church of the Village has small groups to support you wherever you are in your journey.

GOD AFTER DECONSTRUCTION DISCUSSION GROUP

Wednesdays, 2/21-3/27, 6:30pm

Lent is a time in the church calendar between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday often set aside for reflection and introspection. During this time, we will be offering a weekly discussion group based on the course, God After Deconstruction, created by friends of Church of the Village, Tripp Fuller and Thomas Jay Oord.

We encourage you to sign up* for access to the course here, which consists of asynchronous presentations (released in February) that you can watch on your own at any time. Then, join us Wednesdays at 6:30pm ET via Zoom, starting on February 21st for a facilitated discussion led by Pastor Jeff and Pastor Alexis. Themes include scripture, the problem of evil, faith and science, sex and gender, and others.

If you’re unable to watch the presentations, you’re still welcome to participate in the Wednesday night discussions! It’s sure to be a time of rich conversation and spiritual development. We hope you’ll join us!

* The God After Deconstruction course is pay-what-you’re-able. We encourage those who can to make a donation in support of Tripp and Tom’s work. If you’re interested in joining but unable to pay, please still register for the course!

The Alliance: A young adult group

First Sundays

The Alliance will meet the first Sunday of the month, starting October 1 after worship. Outings will include sharing meals together, exploring the city, museum visits, and more. Open to anyone who is young adult(ish), college age - mid-thirties.

Dance prayer

Thursdays, 6:30pm-7:30pm

Join us in the sanctuary every third Thursday of the month for Dance Prayer! We will come together with an opening prayer and moment of reflection and then spend 45 minutes moving our bodies and dancing together to a diverse playlist. There will be no designated choreography and no final performance, just a joyful space to connect with your own rhythm while rejoicing in the gift of dance and community. Each gathering will then close with a moment of prayer and reflection before we part ways.

Wednesday Bible Study -
meeting jesus again for the first time

Bible study will resume with a new study, January 10th, 2024. Please join us as we read, discuss, and expand our understanding of the life and times of Jesus through the book “Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time” written by Marcus J Borg. In this study, Marcus Borg addresses the yearnings of those who want a fully contemporary faith that welcomes rather than oppresses our critical intelligence and openness to the best of historical scholarship. Borg shows how a rigorous examination of historical findings can lead to a new faith in Christ, one that is critical and, at the same time, sustaining.

In straightforward, accessible prose, Borg looks at the major findings of modern Jesus scholarship from the perspective of faith, bringing alive the many levels of Jesus's character: spirit person, teacher of alternative wisdom, social prophet, and movement founder. He also reexamines the major stories of the Old Testament vital to an authentic understanding of Jesus, showing how an enriched understanding of these stories can uncover new truths and new pathways to faith.

We would be delighted to have you join us. Everyone is Welcome.

Facilitated by Sarah Capers, Deaconess.

Join us via Zoom Wednesdays at 6:30pm ET.
